Last night, after hours of severe indigestion and days of ridiculous fatigue, I decided to dump the caffeine habit. About a month ago I ended a life-long love affair with Diet Coke.....And never looked back. I think it's time to do the same with coffee... I miss it already. So where do I look for some liquid flavor? Looks like herbal teas are my new friend. Guess this is the beginning of a long love/hate relationship.
Oh yeah, sugar and bread are now on the no-no list, too. Wah-ha-ha-haaaaa!!!! *Sniff, sniff* Can't I just get rid of one thing at a time? Am I setting myself up for failure? I'm not supposed to have anything that's processed and comes in the typical cardboard box. If I could go live in the Garden of Eden where I couldn't get the "good stuff" even if I wanted it...........maybe I'd get through this....
I'm hungry..........
We have only today. Tomorrow is not a guarantee. So don't put off till tomorrow what you can take care of today. Or something like that.
About Me
- Tina
- Charlotte, North Carolina, United States
- I'm first of all a Christian mother. I have five children and two grandchildren whom I adore. Does this make me June Cleaver? Not even on a good day. But I do wake up every day acutely aware of how my actions affect the behavior of my children and even others around me. I said I was AWARE of it not that I was GOOD at it! So goes my day...

Convictions...
This morning was a little rough, to say the least. Aside from having to get up at 5am to make sure my 9th grader gets it together in time, I needed to wake my 6th grader early today so he had time to take a shower and do his homework that he thinks should never be attempted until 30 minutes before it's time to leave. Said 6th grader also must attend "truancy court" (which he loathes) on Mondays because he (my honor student) missed 20 days last school year, all of them excused. Doesn't matter. Anyhow, every Monday morning he throws a tantrum, digs his heels in and refuses to go when I say, "time to leave." So now I have to threaten this child's life, threaten to take away everything he loves to do, threaten to spank him with a belt, scream... You get the picture. Yeah....
You'd think that this Monday class was something horrid but it's not. It's simply an accountability program set up to make kids aware of the importance and gratification of showing up for school and life in general. His biggest and only issue with going is his turn at being in the "hot seat" in front of the truancy judge and two councilors each and every Monday before going to class. It's not in front of the entire class; just in front of the visiting judge and councilors....and Mom. But he hates being singled out and put on the spot. He immediately turns red and his voice gets shaky. To him it's the same as a slow painful death....Every Monday. He gets made aware of his accomplishments from the week before, then made aware of any improvements he could make. Not a big deal. It won't kill him.... But I might.
Guess what today's topic was. Violence and how to prevent it. What did he get from Mom this morning?....Violence! What did he do before reminded why he was up this early to begin with? Play a violent combat style video game. What was projected onto the big screen at "truancy court?" Extremely graphic (and inappropriate, in my opinion) images of violence and the results of such violence.... i.e., AK47 wounds, gunshot wounds to the skull with brain matter hanging out, a bare chested woman (yes!) showing the huge scars of her extensive, life-saving surgery, a bullet wound in a dead baby's skull... and it goes on! This little show was presented by a local trauma surgeon trying to impress upon these kids (none of whom have disciplinary records at school) the impact of today's violent society. Okay, we get it!!
I see my son off to class, head home, check my Facebook account and get inundated with posts regarding "forgiving one another, turn the other cheek, treat others as you want to be treated, save the animals, feed the hungry, turn from your angry ways, love your enemies...." Is this a conspiracy? Am I missing something? Am I a bad mother? Seriously? Or is God telling me something that I'm just not getting? If anybody has any suggestions about how to get an extremely strong-willed child to do what you need him to do WHEN you need him to do it, then clue me in....PLEASE!

Husbands...
The night before last we (my husband, me and three boys) went to eat at a Chinese buffet. Husband was already a little schnockered (nothing new) before we got there (He's the one that was craving Chinese). We eat, eat some more and pat our full bellies. Husband pays bill and we convoy to the exit.... (here it comes..) Boys shove their way out one of the two doors, very pretty Asian girl waits on other side to come in... Husband pushes open door for pretty girl and says, "Come on in, Precious" as he holds open said door for her. Then proceeds to go out the door... Wife still waiting inside for her turn to go through door...
Excuse me?
HELLOO! Wife here. You can't open the door for me?
He has never called me, or anyone else for that matter, "Precious." Not even a baby or a cute fuzzy little animal. Wasn't sure if I wanted to laugh my ass off at this idiot or vomit in his shoes.
Chinese food was really good, by the way.

Kids....
Right now my youngest son(12) is trying to show me that he can "snake." Ya know, push slobber through his front teeth in a stream... And I have to look closely so I can see it. Yeah, I've been waiting ALL DAY for someone to SPIT in my eye. Gotta appreciate his talent.

It's a very purple day...
Who wore purple today? I did. I'm all for anti-bullying of any kind. But I'm also for Human Rights of the Human kind...
Aside from the usual reasons for being the poster family for "dysfunctional," I have a father (passed away) that was transgendered, uncles (both sides) that were gay and a stepbrother that was gay. They have all passed away.... My father from a massive heart attack (from years of hiding his gender crisis) and the rest from complications of the AIDS virus. All of them, at one time or other, had to deal with hatred from the uninformed, the uncaring or those that thought they were being obedient to God by "disciplining the sinner."
Many believe they got what they deserved. Who decides that someone deserves such public and private pain, suffering and humiliation? Our children see educational videos and movies that preach "be who you are and be proud" yet society tells a very different "hide the real you because you might offend someone." Who's right? Who decides?
Our Founding Fathers wrote of "unalienable rights" but didn't write of sexual preferences. Are our "preferences" an unalienable right? Who decides?
Humanity is about human life and the basic needs for sustaining that life. Pleasure IS one of those basic needs. Those who find no pleasure in life are the ones that want to end their lives. The suicidal. The deprived. The oppressed. Pleasure in this life, including sexual pleasure, is a basic human right. It is an innate part of a human being. It, simply put, just comes with being human. It's more than just procreation. It's about developing relationships with people, both physically and emotionally. It's a HUMAN thing.
Are you HUMAN?...Wear purple today.
